One day in an elementary school, in a spelling class, the teacher would write a word on the chalkboard (blackboard) and call on a student to spell the word and then say it.
One time, he wrote the word "COCOA" on the board, and asked a student, who happens to be Yoruba, to spell it and then say it.
The boy spelled it, C-O-C-O-A. Then he said, in three syllables, instead of two, KO-KO- Ah ("Ah" like in "adult"). Everybody burst into laughter.
Then the teacher said, "not in Yoruba, I mean in English.
"Then he said, again in three syllables, KO-KO-Ay (Ay like in "aim"). Once again, everybody burst into laughter.
