The day arrives at last
Enthusiasm burns in my veins
I arrive eager to register
Wearing gleams of expectations
But alas, all runs counter to my thinking
The smiles disappear and sweat takes over.
I walk in a labyrinth of offices to record my credentials
Coping with lots of curses and confusion.
Exhausted and tired as I am,
with the dry hammarttan weather worsening the situation,
I have to struggle to be called lucky
O God must I endure this.
I purse to view a mad rush at another section.
A group of ruffling, rough and rugged comrades
pushing and pleading in desperation
to secure a cell that they can call their own
for accommodation is scarce and far is home
Aggression has thus become a necessary evil.
I shake my head
It is going to be a long, long process
And opposing the wrath of the dusty wind,
I strive on to get in. |
